She was showing signs of ethylene glycol poisoning before she started drinking Vitamin Water, so it's not possible to assume that the Vitamin Water was the source of the ethylene glycol. No other consumers reported symptoms of ethylene glycol poisoning, and no ethylene glycol has been found in the Vitamin Water she had in her possession prior to her death.
The source of the ethylene glycol has not been definitively determined, but could likely be the swimming pool paint she came into contact with prior to her death. Likewise, the cause of her death has not been determined, but she had no ethylene glycol in her system when she died.
Vitamin Water is a healthy beverage that includes distilled water and electrolytes needed to maintain normal metabolism. Consumer interest in these products is at an all-time high. Vitamin Water provides nutrition to highly active people, as well as to those recovering from illness.
Intelligent consumers of the brand understand that their favorite beverage poses no danger to them. The rumor contains a few facts and asks the listener to jump to a hasty, unproven and negative conclusion. The death of the woman in the rumor was simply not related to her consumption of Vitamin Water.
Vitamin Water is available in a number of enticing flavors; it is enriched with vitamins and minerals needed to maintain a healthy activity level. Speculation and rumors distributed by a malicious email campaign about contaminated Vitamin Water are simply untrue. Investigations into the woman's death have all but ruled out Vitamin Water as a potential source of ethylene glycol.
Coca Cola has a long history of excellence in the beverage industry and would never deliberately include harmful ingredients in a product that bears its name. While the cause of this woman's death has not yet been resolved, it's clear that Vitamin Water played no role in it.
