There was a time when wood logs were too cheap and it did not bother you to use them as the burning fuel for your fireplaces at home or elsewhere. Even gas was cheaper in earlier times and people used it conveniently for heating their homes and offices.
Situation however has completely changed. Steady depletion of forests and regular felling of trees have made the wood much dearer than it once was. Moreover most of the countries have now prohibited felling of trees and their use for such purposes putting in place legislation to the effect. Some of the countries have gone to the extent of prohibiting solid fueled fireplaces in view of the climatic pollution they create.
Electric fireplaces – the cost economic alternative
Rising cost and non availability of wood as fuel for the fireplaces turned people to other alternative. However the cost of gas is constantly rising and gradually it is going beyond the affordable limits for the common man. While the cost of electricity has also been rising over the years with the steady growth of consumers and multiplication of consumptions, the price rise is not as intense as in case of other fuels.
Both gas fireplaces and those using electric fires have the advantage of being clean. The traditional wood based fireplaces gave out smokes and charcoal. Smokes created problems for the atmosphere and you were forced to use long chimneys to make them exit. Even then they had a considerable impact on the environment all around and environmental scientists have been fighting for their abolition for quite some times. The charcoal and residual particles also made the house unclean. No such problems exist with either the gas or the electric based fireplaces. However the electric using fireplaces are even more cost economic.
